Communication: Good communication with the hotel from booking to arrival. However it would be good for the hotel to inform those travelling by train that there is easy access to the hotel across the street across from the station, where you can get a lift to reception, instead of struggling up numerous steep steps with luggage. Location: Fabulous location. A minutes walk from the main railway station. 100 yards from the Royal Mile. We walked all around Edinburgh and found the location of the hotel couldn't have been beaten. Reception: Booking in was swift and easy. Stephen the porter was friendly, polite and very informative on the hotel and area. Booking out was ok, although ignored at first as staff were chatting and didn't acknowledge us! Room: Our room was excellent and couldn't bee faulted and we were pleased we had upgraded as we had travelled to celebrate a special occasion. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Large comfy bed, large tv, nespresso coffee machine, coffee pods, various tea's, biscuits, tunnocks chocolate wafer bars, milk cartons (fresh milk available on request) (all replenished daily) and two small bottles of a pleasant whisky. Plenty of space for clothes in the drawers and wardrobe. two relaxing chairs, ironing board and iron, safe. blackout curtains. Bathroom was very spacious, a very large shower, plenty of towels, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Breakfast: Excellent choose for breakfast, plenty of variety. Always cooked well during the 4 breakfasts we had. There was cooked breakfasts, cereals, porridge, fruit, yogurt, pastries, cheeses, hams, rolls, bread, fruit juices, tea, coffee etc everything you could want and more. The only issue we had was on every day other than the first morning we were shown to a table that hadn't been set properly i.e. no cups and saucers, no cutlery, no menu's, no milk jug. We actually laughed on mornings 3 and 4 that a simple thing hadn't been done. However the staff were polite, friendly and helpful and swiftly addressed the missing items when asked. Decor: Fabulous decor throughout the hotel, a majestic building. Cafe Royale: We used this once for an evening meal and on another occasion just for a cocktail. We had a lovely meal with excellent service. The cocktail experience was brilliant, not only did we have a well made cocktails, the server Ramona was informative, friendly and great to chat to, a credit to the restaurant bar. They made the experience brilliant. Would we stay at the Scotsman again: The answer is definitely, although pricey, we loved our stay and miss not being there.

Stunning hotel in a great location right in the heart of the city. The views from our (superior) room were outstanding and the room itself was beautifully designed. Breakfast OK but our meal in 'The Grand Cafe' was really disappointing and certainly not up to the standard of the rest of the experience. We'd definitely stay again for the location, quality of the room and view but there are plenty of much better options for dinner in Edinburgh.

We had an amazing stay at the Scotsman Hotel. It was fabulous and surpassed our expectations. The room was stunning and had a great view. The hotel was also located right in the center of town and everything is within walking distance. The rooms were very clean and had a very pleasant smell. The staff were extremely pleasant and friendly. I want to especially mention about Queenie D’Costa who ensured that our stay was a memorable one. She is not only very pleasant and friendly, but always willing to help. Thank you, Queenie and Jess. We will be back definitely. I will definitely recommend the Scotsman Hotel to friends and family.

Great location. Great staff. Breakfast was good. While construction was going on around the hotel - it did not impact our stay that much. The standout was the Concierge - both team members were truly outstanding. They even walked us to the train station to obtain our train tickets. A few times while there the restaurant/bar did not have items on the menu.

I would give 0 stars if possible. This is the worst hotel I have ever been to. As a young Asian female who traveled from the U.S. for spring break, my experience at Scotsman Hotel was profoundly disappointing and unsettling. Initially, everything seemed normal when I checked in early at 7 AM, though I was told to return at 3 PM as the room was still being cleaned. Surprisingly, I received a call from Deputy General Manager Kieran James at 2:30 PM, who requested to discuss something in person. Upon arrival, Kieran informed me that due to a leak in someone else's room, it was necessary to relocate my friend and me to another hotel. He claimed that the alternative accommodation was similar and that our room was 'upgraded.' However, the reality was significantly worse—the replacement hotel had smaller rooms, lacked amenities like an elevator and room service, and was much cheaper than what we had paid for at the Scotsman Hotel. Kieran James' decision to specifically move us, without clear justification, alongside his dismissive attitude towards our concerns, felt discriminatory. His polite demeanor noticeably shifted when interacting with guests of other races. Despite promises of a full refund and assurances of sending an email confirmation, Kieran has since become unreachable, ignoring all correspondence and failing to process the promised refund. The hotel has also refused to provide any compensation for the significant downgrade in our accommodations. This experience was not only a major disruption to our travel plans but also made us feel unfairly treated. I cannot recommend Scotsman Hotel to anyone, especially for those who expect fair and respectful treatment.
